Shree Chipling Revisited

It has been more than two and a half years since we first visited Shree Chipling and Shree Salme Primary schools in Thakani, Sindupalchok. The new government school is not yet complete, but by the three year mark, these children should be able to return to a classroom.

The new school is made from brick and concrete, steel roof and beams and smooth concrete floors.

Rubble from the old school fills the yard outside the new school building. A drain pipe rises above the ground where the new toilet will be.

During this donation we saw many children with the school bags we had brought on May 19, 2015. Well worn and cherished with their colourful pictures faded, the children still had their books and pencils inside.

A little way down the mountain was another school, Salme Primary school in Thakani, where we had donated to a community where every single house in the village had collapsed. The children had come to receive their bags in bare feet with only the clothes on their backs left from the disaster.
